Im a smoker and want whiter teeth any suggetions?
BOOTS do some great teeth whitening kits from as little as £5. i bought one from there for about £7.50, it last for ages and worked a treat, i dont smoke but wanted my teeth to look pearly white for a speacial b-day nite out.

also use whitening toothpaste instead of normal.

the boots kits come with a tooth guide so u can match the colour ur teeth are at thr start and see how light they get after a few applictions... i think the one i got was called ultra bright or something like that (was in a small greenish plastic box)

they do more exensive kits too that work first application, the cheaper kits start to work after about 3 applications (ie 1 application a day) so use a cheaper kit in advance of a night out or specially occasion, or use once a day in place or ur normal brushing routeen.
Reply:You do know as a fellow smoker you will got loads of people telling you to give it up . Anyway i will watch your question as I have the same problem . i would love to have mine whitened but it is very costly.
Reply:try brushing with baking soda but the only way to get rid of nicotined stained teeth is..#you know the answer already
Reply:dunno. try going to the dentist, and STOP smoking, the most important. Or it wouldn't be any use.
Reply:give up smoking

pay thousands of pounds to get your teeth cosmetically whitened

use whitening toothpaste
Reply:stop smoking first and then get them bleached
Reply:Use Crest whitening toothpaste. That would be the cheapest way, also use some baking soda when you brush. Next step up would be the home whitening treatments, but they can be costly.
Reply:Either you can use correction ink or start quitting.

Im a smoker too and sorry, baby, but you cant have your cake and eat it too.
Reply:Hi

Fortunately I don't smoke now but I got this information from my dentist, put salt on your toothpaste and watch the yellow crap come off, whiter teeth within a week plus salt kills the bacteria. Hope this helps.

P.s you can clean your teeth but what about your lungs?
Reply:Smokers mouth wash, removes nicotine and brush your teeth with a baking soda and peroxide toothpaste, and rinse with peroxide. Works pretty good. Dentist recommended it to me and the peroxide kills bacteria in the mouth.
Reply:I'm not going to pontificate. Baking soda or salt to scrub with have the best results, plus being safe %26amp; cheap.
Reply:Get 2 tablespoons of lemon juice and mix with a pinch o f salt and brush your teeth with that, it'll taste very bitter but in result your teeth should start to look whiter.
Reply:After you resolve the dental hygiene issue you might want to consider the respiratory issues.
Reply:there's a tooth whitening kit available from littlewoods catalogue priced £35. Its pretty good. It comes with 3 gels (whitener) gum/teeth shield and blue light.
Reply:You should never have gotten yourself into this position in the first place. Stop now, and brush your teeth with baking powder in warm water daily, as well as with whitening tooth paste. Whatever you do, don't brush with lemon juice like someone said, as the results you see are amazing, but it's only because the acid in the lemon is eroding your top layer of enamel away, and this could cause SERIOUS problems in the future.
Reply:eat one apple everyday before u go to sleep

brush ur teeth with lemon peel 3 times a day.
Reply:if u rub strawberrys on them? yes it does work they are a natural whitener-also in chemists etc theres a whitening pack called brilliant-the putting on gel ect didnt do anything but theres a small tube of toothpaste in there that is excellent x
Reply:STOP SMOKING
Reply:You need to brush 3 times/day

Reply:The discolouration caused by smoking is almost always superficial. That is to say you have surface stains on your teeth caused by the nicotine. The good news is that these can be relatively easily removed by a dentist or dental hygienist. Please don't try to do this yourself using lemon juice, baking soda, salt or anything else. Lemon juice is

highly acidic and will remove the surface of your enamel along with the stains as you brush. Once the enamel is gone, it cannot be put back. Baking soda and salt can be effective but they are also very abrasive and can also damage the enamel on your teeth if used inappropriately.

Your dentist or hygienist can clean your teeth safely and usually quite cheaply. I offer a "smoker's cleaning" for £30-£35. Not much in comparison to the cost of cigarettes these days!

The bad news: if you don't stop smoking, the discolouration will quickly return. And, as someone else has already pointed out, you can clean your teeth but your lungs are not so easy to clean. Smoking also has other effects on your mouth that are more difficult to treat. It puts you at greatly increased risk of gum disease - the leading cause of tooth loss in the UK. When you have no teeth, you don't need to worry about their colour! It also obviously puts you at risk of mouth and throat cancers.

Smoking itself does not usually darken the teeth intrinsically. If after superficial stain removal you are still unhappy with the colour of your teeth, which may be totally unrelated to smoking, you would need to consider bleaching them. This is always best done by a dental professional. Home kits do not always contain appropriate agents to lighten teeth. Some are just acids, which have the effect of stripping off the enamel. The trays in these kits are not custom made and poor fitting may lead to the bleaching agent leaking out and burning the soft tissues in th mouth. A dental professional ca also ensure your teeth are healthy enough to undergo bleaching as decayed teeth can become irreversibly sensitive if bleached, and those with gum disease - which, as noted, smokers are more at risk of - should also not bleach.
Reply:gargle with domestos.
Reply:Well, Crest white strips work really well but (and this isn't a lecture) smoking will always just stain them back. You will probably not end up with the results you want. It's like investing in a gym membership and not going. Quitting smoking (as hard as it is) would be your best bet. Not what you want to hear, I know!!!
Reply:The best way and I'm not being patronising is to stop smoking go to your dentist have a good mouth cleaning see how much staining they can get off then just use a good toothpaste not a smokers toothpaste I think that they are very harsh on your teeth
Reply:I've just come back from the dentist and I smoke too... though only eight or ten a day... I am 62 and have just been told my gums and teeth are very healthy... save one which is dead and slightly off colour (car crash in the seventies) and has been loose ever since... I've had ten pregnancies and toxaemia and blood tranfusions and a broken jaw in the past... all of which affect teeth.

Yet he congratulated me on how clean and free of plaque they are... I have a broken filling in one tooth... but... he said if he takes the tooth out... as one dentist wanted to... it will crumble... as it's an old deep root canal mercury filling... so best left alone for as long as possible... now here's a thing:

I've had numerous injuries in my life... and illnesses and two road accidents... none of my doing... but all have affected my jaw and teeth at some time... and arthritis has caused my gums to recede much in recent years... yet... still my teeth are healthy in their roots and he said... very white considering... and the gums extremely healthy... he said this twice... but... my problem is three bottom front teeth are not so pretty any more... what was cute when young... is not the same at sixty plus... and one has a top broken off and one... is yellow... due car crash... they came through my jaw when I hit the steering wheele and broke it... and were pushed back at the time... and though the yellow one is still loose ever since 1973... he said there is still enough root to hold it in for life... because I'd looked after it!

I felt ashamed because I do smoke... but he never even asked... and I had always had super teeth... but loss of NHS dentistry for seven years... couldn't get on a panel at all after returning to my home town... this had left me convinced I looked like an old hag:-(

He said "Whatever you're doing... keep doing it... your gums and teeth are healthy... but... to really make them the way you'd like them to be... we'd need to remove those bottom three and replace them... and only fitted teeth (screw in) would work because of the receding gums... bridges would be difficult for you to wear with the receding gums on the teeth that would hold them in... and the cost sadly... would be £10,000."

Yikes... I don't have that kinda dosh right now... but he seriously cheered me up anyway.... and I came out of there head high and smiling... as opposed to going in head down and ashamed!

And here's what I do... I own and use a dental cleaning kit... and once a month I remove all the dross by using the mirror and a magnifying shaving/make-up mirror... I scrape and clean them everywhere... and I clean with salt... to remove the muck... and especially after drinking coffee:

Then... I clean with baking powder... and wash well:

Then I use tooth paste and ya'know what... seems I use the same brand as my dentist anyway:-)

I do this twice every day... three times... if I've smoked more than I usually do... or had too much tea or coffee... they stain just as much as cigarettes you know!

I raised six children and not one ever had a filling and in the forties, thirties and twenties... all have excellent teeth and were used as advertisements on how to care for teeth by my past dentist... that's why I felt ashamed of mine!

when they were young I banned all pops and fizzy drinks... all sweets except one pack a week... all junk foods... which as adults they now eat in abundence... but... they had the grounding which afforded them their healthy toothy pegs today... so my conscience is whiter than white on that score even if my teeth of slightly less white;-)

Now I'm off to buy me an electric tooth brush... dentist advice... to slow the receding gums just a little if I can...

Oh... and guess what... maybe they aint as bad as I'd feared after all... it's been a few years since a guy wrote my phone number on his hand... but one did on the weekend... in Morrison's Car park... guess where I'm going to buy the electric tooth brush;-)

Laughing... and no longer afraid to do so;-)
