Whiter teeth, with bi-carb soda?

i have heard that using bi-carb soda with toothpaste will whiten your teeth. i think it is an old wives tale, was wondering if anyone has any logic behind why it might work

There is actually a toothpaste on the market than contains baking soda, so I don`t think it`s all an old wives tale. Soda is a cleansing agent along with many other household uses. It probably works on the same principle that club soda works on removing carpet stains. Perhaps because it`s main ingredient is sodium is where it`s cleansing ability lies. I have know many who have used Arm %26amp; Hammer baking soda for brushing their teeth, especially black coffee drinkers and smokers.

Reply:It's effective because it is abrasive. Don't exaggerate when brushing your teeth with it tho. You might end up removing your tooth enamel.
Reply:FOR SOME PEOPLE USING BI-CARB SODA ON IT'S TEETH CAN GET TO CRACK BY THE TIME. SO I I SUGEST NOT TO USED FOR WASH TEETH , THATS JUST FOR FOODS OR FOR CLEANSER IN SOME METAL THINGS
Reply:Plain table salt is effective as is lemon juice. Avoiding coffee and tea will give that white smile but the most efficient is to grow a big walrus moustache so people can't see your teeth anyway.
Reply:Yes. And it also helps with plaque problems. I use it every day, and then brush again with my toothpaste.
Reply:Well just a tip if you're going to use bi-carb soda with your toothpaste--- Mix it in! I just tried it, and didn't realise the little 'mix it in' bit that someone said-- I went to brush my teeth and pulled the most sour face you would have ever seen in the whole world... Mix it in with something-- Toothpick, whatever. Just mix it in!

look a bit fake so go slow with the bi-carb
