I am going to the dentist to have crowns put on my front 4 teeth. Do I bleach my teeth b/f for a whiter smile?

I have seen people say that dentist's try to match the color of your crowns to your other teeth and since I can only afford to get the top 4 crowned, they would be matching them to my "eye" teeth. The thing is that I want BRIGHT WHITE teeth, because I have had discolored teeth since I was young. I had caps put on in high school, but they matched them to that current color and I was not happy having newly covered teeth in a bad color. I am wondering if I should use that over the counter 2 week bleaching system to get my teeth as white as possible so that when they match the colors, they are significantly brighter to match up with. If there are any dental assistants or dentists out there I could really use any advice. My dentist is a friend of my mom, so she is giving me a good deal, but I just want to have a smile that I can be proud about. Another thing...should I think about veneering the next 2 top teeth on either side until I can afford to have them crowned? P.S. I have an overbite.

Good question.

Since bleaching results cannot be precisely predicted, it is usually best to bleach first and then match the crowns.

Over the counter methods don't work as well as the kind the dentist can give you. In my office, if you were having 4 veneers done, we would give you a take-home bleach kit for free. Use bleach trays for about 2 weeks before your crowns are done.

If you can afford it, 6 are better than 4. If you decide to do the other 2 later, they will be harder to match/fit with your other crowns.
Reply:Remember that eye teeth are normally darker than the front teeth. I'm sure the dentist will know this. Also, if you get a bright white smile, your teeth will probably look fake. If you can get just a shade or two darker than bright white, it will look more natural.

Happy New Year!

I hope you love your new smile!
