What's the best way to get whiter teeth besides bleaching?

I've drank ice tea my whole life, and notice that my teeth are getting noticably yellow. Besides going to the dentist and getting teeth bleached, what is the best way/products for getting whiter teeth? I know over the past few years, those Crest Whitestrip type products have come out, but I'm afraid to waste the money on them. Anyone use them? Thanks for all help.

Make sure to have regular cleanings at your dental office every 6 months which will remove any extrinsic stains on your teeth. Extrinsic stains are stains that are caused by such things as coffee, tea, smoking, dark colas, etc. Also you can discuss whitening with your dentist.
Reply:I used them once and they worked great for me. They taste kinda nasty though but it did help. Try a good toothpaste made just for getting whiter teeth, they work almost as good, but not as long as the strips. You'll have to keep using the toothpaste, but you brush your teeth all the time anyways ^_^
Reply:just try a "whitening" toothpaste, or baking soda
Reply:Brush them!
Reply:I tried the crest white strips and didn't notice much difference. Plus the lady before me is right, they taste awful! I have been using listerine w/whitener %26amp; my dentist noticed the difference. Plus any kind of whitening toothpaste.
Reply:just brush your teeth really good and long.. i dont think that it really matters what kind *i use aquafresh!*
Reply:Got *tons* of money? Veneers, crowns, implants. Price range: $700 - $3500 *per tooth*.

Any dental product with alcohol in it is bad news. Read labels carefully.

The best toothpaste or mouthwash available in stores is Biotene. Dentek also makes a good mouthwash. Whitening floss with fluoride is available--but for whitening, its effectiveness is obviously severely limited.

Strips don't taste bad to me. But they only whiten the teeth that are seen when you smile slightly.

Also, any kind of bleaching will not whiten anything but a natural tooth. Dental restorations can only be whitened by replacing them. (Refer to prices above.)

Ask your dentist if s/he has any financial interest in the product(s) s/he recommends.

Visit a *good* dentist who accepts public assistance (welfare) patients. (They are *very* hard to find.) Dentists *lose* money on these patients. The paperwork is a nightmare.

So a *good* dentist who accepts these patients is usually more concerned with providing care than with collecting dollars. Logic places most of these providers in affluent areas.

PS If you have any mercury (metal/amalgam) fillings in your mouth--get the poison replaced with composite bonding. (*Relatively* inexpensive.)
